Winter: Artist in Residency at Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts 2007-2008

" Child Memory "

" Child Memory "

This body of work is a tribute—tender and radiant—to the women who raised me. As a Thai woman, I draw upon the quiet rituals of my mother and grandmother, whose love was expressed not through grand gestures, but through the rhythm of everyday life: combing hair, preparing food, mending clothes. Their tools—a comb, a spoon, a fork, a pair of scissors—became instruments of care, and now, in my hands, symbols of memory and meaning.

In these sculptural forms, I reimagine the uterus as a sacred vessel—abstracted, stylized, and blooming. It becomes the universe’s first home, the beginning of all life. Around it, I integrate domestic objects not as remnants of labor, but as graceful extensions of a woman’s creative force. Each element is adorned with banana leaves and tropical patterns, echoing Thai folklore, where the banana tree is a symbol of abundance and the gentle generosity of the feminine spirit.

The surfaces pulse with warmth—bright colors, blooming flowers, and curves that evoke both body and blossom. Each ceramic figure is unique, yet connected—like a family, like memories. Installed in a circular formation on the wall, the works form a mandala of care, a constellation of wombs and petals, spoons and forks. The circle becomes a sacred space: a cycle of life, a gesture of unity, a dance of continuity.

" My Butterfly, My Pelvis "

" My Butterfly, My Pelvis "

The female pelvis, like the wings of a butterfly, unfolds in strength and grace. Its form—delicate to the eye—holds the quiet power of creation. Though often seen as fragile, it is the strongest bone in the body, cradling the womb, where life begins and grows.

In nature, the butterfly flutters from bloom to bloom, seeking nectar. In doing so, it gives life to flowers, scattering unseen beauty in its wake. Just as the butterfly brings renewal, the female pelvis carries the seed of new life with resilience and love.

I bring these two forms together—bone and wing, womb and flight—not merely for their shapes, but for their shared spirit of transformation. Through this union, I explore the poetry of femininity: strong yet tender, grounded yet free.
